Considering two major social justice issues in 2014, one dealing with police brutality and the other dealing with online gendered harassment, the need to have an ethical framework with which to respond to the digitized shortcomings of humanity became blatant. Inspired by a womanist ethic, Techno-womanism was first developed within my thesis for Union Theological Seminary in the city of New York entitled: Techno-Womanism: Social Justice, Faith, and the Digital Space. The essay explores this ethical framework inspired by womanist theology through the lens of the #Gamergate and #BlackLivesMatter hashtags. Since then, I have been inspired by Techno-womanism to write and speak about the social justice issues in the digital space.
